Detox for health and nutrition - day 7, 8, 9 & 10

Day 7: Fitbit says I slept for 7hr 10mn. Today Joy and I drove to Maine for a mini family reunion for my step-mom. Needless to say, (as you'll see below) I went outside the guardrails when I had lunch, and more-or less skipped dinner. I'll pay for it tomorrow ...

Meals:

  • Breakfast: yesterdays kale salad, tangerine, tea.
  • Lunch: vegetarian rueben with broccoli, coleslaw, cheese, bread, a side of potatoes, and 2 beers.
  • Snack: banana.
  • Dinner: nuts only.

Day 8: Fitbit says I slept for 8hr 1mn. Down the home stretch! In spite of yesterday's not-so-healthy lunch, I think we're both feeling the best we have in a long time.

Meals:

  • Breakfast: quinoa, whole avocado, tea.
  • Lunch: tomato soup with turkey bone broth, brown rice and vegetables.
  • Snack: nut's, tangerine.
  • Dinner: same tomato soup I had for lunch.

Day 9: Fitbit says I slept for 7hr 52mn.

Meals:

  • Breakfast: quinoa, whole avocado, tea.
  • Lunch: jambalaya (yesterday's tomato soup with shrimp added).
  • Snack: nuts, tangerine.
  • Dinner: jambalaya

Day 10: Fitbit says I slept for 8hr 52mn.

Meals:

  • Breakfast: blueberry & banana smoothie, hard boiled egg, tea.
  • Lunch: sliced turkey and avocado.

We've done it!

Joy and I feel clear headed and much more rested :). We want to continue with cleaner eating for most of our meals, but will loosen up a little on the weekends (I'm still hungry all the time). I enjoy cooking, and it's amazing how delicious healthy eating can be in the absence of all the other stuff that we gave up for the last ten days. When we food shop, we'll always be sure to maintain the habit of looking at the list of ingredients. If it's not organic and/or "clean", it goes back up on the shelf.

Also ...

    • Caffeine: I'll stay off coffee altogether, at least for now. As much as I love a good cup, the absence of caffeine has made a big difference for me.
    • Sugar: I don't have a sweet-tooth, and didn't have a problem laying off the sweets. I will indulge from time-to-time, but generally stay away.
    • Beer: Welcome back, Oysterman, Winsor House, and Chestnut Street Tavern!
    • Gluten: Looking forward Duxbury's My Little Bakery (artisan bread) and French Memories (butter croissant) once in awhile ;-)
    • Dairy: With the exception of cheese, I don't miss dairy at all, including ice cream. Joy and I have been drinking almond milk for years, so giving up dairy for the past 10 days wasn't a big deal.
    • Indulgences: Yep, I'm not giving burgers, pasta or pizza, but will save them for Saturdays or Sundays. We've both committed to clean eating 6 days a week,
