Detox for health and nutrition, day - 1, 2 & 3

Day 1: Joy and I began a 10 day cleanse/detox program today: 

  • 100% clean eating is "in" - foods like quinoa, legumes, fish, chicken, beef, eggs, kale, yams, nuts, most fruits and veggies, bone broth, almond milk, caffeine-free tea, and tons of water.  What is "out" are things like coffee, sugar, artificial sweeteners, diet soft drinks, beer, dairy, gluten, potatoes, and most cooking oils.  I tossed so much "bad stuff" from the fridge that it's practically empty. Time to go to the store to get some "good stuff" ... 

Meals:

  • Breakfast: three scrambled eggs, quinoa, banana, tea
  • Lunch: kale salad
  • Snack: nuts
  • Dinner: lentil-quinoa hen broth

Day 2: Yesterday was easier than today. Yes we were hungry, but the withdrawal symptoms weren't that bad. I went to the gym and took a spin class and did some light exercise, took Kira for a ride to the transfer station, and completed some projects around the house.

Fitbit says I slept for 9 hr 18 mn - which I haven't in years. Joy's sleep was restless, and she logged only about 5 hours. Throughout then day, we were both starving, cranky, achy and tired (it takes about 3 days to power through this part of the program).

Meals:

  • Breakfast: avocado dressed with olive oil and lemon juice, strawberry smoothie, hard boiled egg, tea
  • Lunch: kale salad
  • Snack: nuts
  • Dinner: lentil-quinoa hen broth, kale salad.

Day 3: Fitbit says I slept for 7hr 58mn. Woke up starving and had 4 ounces of steak, half an avocado, and bee balm tea for breakfast. I was still really hungry so cooked some more quinoa to fill the hole in my stomach. Joy worked at home so we were able to commiserate.

  • Lunch: kale salad
  • Snack: nuts
  • Dinner: lentil-quinoa hen broth
